Description: In 2009, American geologist Adrian Helmsley visits astrophysicist Satnam Tsurutani in India and discovers that neutrinos from a massive solar flare are heating Earth’s core. Upon presenting this information to White House Chief of Staff Carl Anheuser, he meets U.S. President Thomas Wilson. By 2010, global leaders initiate a covert project to ensure humanity’s survival, constructing nine arks in the Himalayas near Tibet, each capable of housing 100,000 people. A Tibetan monk, Nima, is evacuated, and his brother Tenzin joins the ark project. Funding is secured by selling tickets at €1 billion per person.
By 2011, valuable artifacts are transferred to the arks with the help of art expert Laura Wilson, the president’s daughter. In 2012, Jackson Curtis, a struggling science-fiction writer from California, works as a chauffeur for Russian billionaire Yuri Karpov. Jackson’s ex-wife Kate and their children Noah and Lilly live with her boyfriend, Gordon Silberman, a plastic surgeon and amateur pilot. Jackson takes his children camping in Yellowstone National Park, where they encounter a restricted area guarded by the U.S. Army. After being detained and released, they meet conspiracy theorist Charlie Frost, who discusses theories about polar shifts and the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar predicting a catastrophic event in 2012.
As earthquakes strike California, Jackson, his family, and Gordon race to escape in a small plane, seeking safety as the world faces impending doom.
