**Plot Summary:**
Ex-convicts Emil Slovak (Karel Roden) and Oleg Razgul (Oleg Taktarov) travel to the United States to recover their share of a bank heist orchestrated in Eastern Europe. Oleg steals a video camera from an electronics store. When their former partner refuses to give them their portion, Emil kills the partner and his wife, while Oleg records the crime. Czech immigrant Daphne Handlova (Vera Farmiga) witnesses the murders from the bathroom and escapes before they can kill her. To cover their tracks, Emil sets the apartment on fire.
Arson investigator Jordy Warsaw (Edward Burns) is assigned to the case, along with high-profile detective Eddie Flemming (Robert De Niro), who is accompanied by his girlfriend, reporter Nicolette Karas (Melina Kanakaredes), from the tabloid show *Top Story*. Flemming and Warsaw team up to investigate. While examining the crowd, Warsaw notices Daphne trying to get his attention, but she vanishes. Meanwhile, Emil contacts an escort service, requests a “Czech girl,” and murders the escort (Noelle Evans). Oleg continues filming everything, aspiring to become the next Frank Capra.
