Description: In the year 10,000 BC, the Yagahl, a hunter-gatherer tribe residing in the Ural Mountains, sustain themselves by hunting woolly mammoths. The tribe is led by a skilled hunter who once killed a mammoth single-handedly, earning the revered White Spear. They also honor Old Mother, an elderly woman with shamanistic abilities. As the mammoth population declines, the village chief encounters a young girl named Evolet, the sole survivor of a massacre carried out by what Old Mother describes as “four-legged demons.” She prophesies that these demons will arrive when the Yagahl embark on their final hunt and that whoever kills the leader of the demons will win both Evolet and the White Spear, becoming the next chief.
The tribe believes the demons are mammoths, whose return will save them from starvation. However, the chief dismisses the prophecy and sets out to find another solution to save his people. He entrusts the White Spear, his son D’Leh, and the true purpose of his mission to his friend Tic’Tic. Meanwhile, the tribe, including D’Leh’s rival Ka’Ren, believes the chief fled out of cowardice. Over time, D’Leh and Evolet fall in love.
When the mammoths eventually return, D’Leh hunts them alongside the tribe under Tic’Tic’s leadership. He accidentally kills one, winning the White Spear and Evolet’s hand in marriage. While the village celebrates the fulfillment of Old Mother’s prophecy, D’Leh is burdened by guilt for not earning the Spear fairly. After a conversation with Tic’Tic, he relinquishes the Spear, forfeiting his marriage to Evolet.
The next day, horse-raiders attack the camp, capturing Evolet and others while killing many tribe members. D’Leh, Tic’Tic, Ka’Ren, and a young boy named Baku set out to rescue their people. During an encounter with terror birds, Evolet, Ka’Ren, and Baku are recaptured, and Tic’Tic is injured. While hunting, D’Leh falls into a pit, where he rescues a Smilodon before escaping himself.
The story unfolds as D’Leh faces numerous challenges to save his tribe and the woman he loves.
